Is June the Month You Achieve Your Career Breakthrough?

June 7, 2024 By Jacquie Peros Leave a Comment

June Career GoalsAs we welcome June, it’s the perfect time to reflect, reset, and realign our career goals. The mid-year mark offers a unique opportunity to assess our progress and make necessary adjustments to ensure we end the year strong. Whether you’re aiming for a promotion, eager to learn new skills, or striving for a better work-life balance, now is the time to set clear, actionable intentions.

I do this every June for my business and my personal life. In fact, I now have my daughter do this, too. I ask her what goals she wants to set for the summer. Even though she’s only nine years old, I like her to establish things that are important to her (furthering her sailing skills, making a new friend, reading a new book, etc.) and how she might achieve them. In the end, she always feels a sense of accomplishment.

Below I have outlined some steps that I take my clients through to help them assess and refine their goals for the second half of the year.

5 Steps For a Career Breakthrough

1. Reflect on Progress 📈- Start by taking a moment to celebrate your achievements so far this year. Recognize the hard work you’ve put in and the milestones you’ve reached. This reflection isn’t just about acknowledging success but also about identifying areas where you can improve. What has worked well for you? What hasn’t? Use these insights to inform your next steps.

2. Set Clear Goals ✅ – Once you’ve reflected on your progress, it’s time to set new goals. Make sure your goals are specific, measurable, and achievable. Vague goals like “I want to do better at work” are hard to track and accomplish. Instead, try “I want to complete an online course in my field by the end of the month” or “I want to nurture and build 5 new network connections by June 30th.” Writing your goals down can also significantly increase your chances of achieving them.

3. Create a Plan – 📝 With clear goals in mind, break them down into actionable steps. If your goal is to complete a course, your steps might include researching available courses, enrolling in one, and setting aside time each week to study. Set deadlines for each step to keep yourself accountable and on track.

4. Seek Support 💫 – Don’t underestimate the power of support from others. Reach out to mentors, colleagues, or friends who can offer advice, encouragement, or even just a listening ear. Sometimes, discussing your goals with someone else can provide new perspectives and insights you hadn’t considered.

5. Stay Flexible 💪 – While it’s important to have a plan, it’s equally important to stay flexible. Be open to adjusting your plans as needed and embrace new opportunities that come your way. Flexibility can lead to unexpected and rewarding paths that you might not have considered initially.

As we embark on this journey to reset and realign our career goals, let’s make June a month of growth and success. Remember, every small step you take is a step closer to your breakthrough.
