How to stay positive in times when it feels impossible

June 30, 2021 By Jacquie Peros Leave a Comment

I hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe during this unsettling time.  I know we will all get through this with mostly likely a different perspective on how we live our life.

I’ve seen (and read) a number of articles on how to be more productive during a quarantine, how to meditate more effectively, tips and strategies on how to manage anxiety and stress and so on, but let’s be honest, sometimes we just want to be able to feel what we’re feeling and sit with those feelings for a minute.  It’s ok to cry, or sit on the couch watching tv, bake a decadent dessert, listen to music, read for endless hours and just be unproductive.  Why would I suggest this?  Because I think it’s important to grieve all the things life offered before COVID-19.  Once we grieve we can begin to move forward and learn to better navigate this new way of life.

Best Self JournalFirst thing in the morning I make sure I write in this journal.  I love this journal because it starts and ends my day with a guided focus on being positive and grateful.  If I find that my day goes awry, I end it with a great focus on positivity which eliminates lingering negative thoughts before I go to sleep.  Alternatively I use the Better Self Journal which is more focused on goal setting and achievement tracking for businesses but it does have a gratitude component as well.

The Happy News NewspaperI came across The Happy Newspaper when it was mentioned on a podcast and I began following them on Instagram.  It’s a newspaper dedicated to celebrating all that is good in the world.  I love reading the beautiful and heartfelt stories around the world. It’s just a great departure from the news of today.

Baking toolsFor me, cooking and baking is a mood shifter and I really love the fact that my 5 year old daughter is starting to enjoy it too.  We turn on the music and get lost in the measuring, dicing, blending and aromatic smells in the kitchen.  Plus, it’s a creative way to demonstrate math principles to her without her feeling it’s “school work!”

I’d love to hear what you’re doing to stay positive during this quarantine.  Leave me a comment below!
